Hegsted’s Personal History of the Dietary Guidelines

Shortly before his death, Mark Hegsted sent Henry Blackburn this apparently unpublished personal commentary on the origin and early history of U.S. Dietary Guidelines. It shows that an unusual conjunction of key people, key evidence, and circumstance was crucial to the arrival of this fixture in the world of nutrition and public health (HB).
