Critiques of the Seven Countries Study and Ancel Keys
For the last decade, originating mainly with food writers promoting the high-fat, low-carbohydrate, “Paleo” eating pattern, has come a campaign of disinformation about this study and its investigators, without evidence of knowledge of the study methods or the nature of its approach 1. to ecologic associations of diet and heart disease among SCS cohorts contrasting in habitual diet, and 2. individual associations of the other CVD risk factors to heart disease events within those cohorts. The more succinct and available original source for that study is the article by the investigators on the 15-year follow-up of the cohorts and a commentary on it printed in the American Journal of Epidemiology in 2017:
