Dwayne Reed and Darwin Labarthe, while on a population study in Palau in the late 1960s, engage in what they term "reef epidemiology." Their island meeting with the principal investigator, Stoney Stallones, led to coining the credo: "If it isn't fun, it isn't epidemiology.
