Jasenka Demirovic, MD, MSc, PhD

Born: 1946

Jasenka Demirovic played a major role in the development of CVD epidemiology in the former Yugoslavia and in the Working Group on Epidemiology of the European Society of Cardiology. She graduated in medicine from Sarajevo University and received advanced training, degrees, and specialty boards in medicine and cardiology at the University of Belgrade, where she participated in the early CVD cohort study, the Yugoslavia Cardiovascular Disease Study. Her subsequent career at the University of Miami and the University of Texas at Houston has focused on women’s health issues with special pursuits in aging, Alzheimers disease, psychosocial risk, alcohol, and health disparities. She has given much of her career to teaching and advising in medicine, cardiology, and epidemiology.

Dr. Demirovic has been particularly active in expert committees and task forces of the European Society of Cardiology and as consultant and reviewer for WHO and NIH. She established her consulting company in epidemiology in 2005. (HB)
