Elizabeth Barrett-Connor, MD

Born: 1935

Elizabeth Barrett-Connor received her MD from Cornell in 1960 and trained in epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She came to CVD epidemiology from infectious diseases and has since pursued a rich career in cardiovascular areas including the effects of hormones, obesity, and diabetes, as well as contributions to cancer, osteoporosis, memory loss, and many facets of aging and women’s health.

She is a central leader and sought-after pedagogue for academic epidemiology, as a department head, as P-I of the Rancho Bernardo Heart and Chronic Disease Study, and on the faculty of the 10-day seminars in CVD epidemiology. (HB)
