Degree Programs

Clinical Research, MS Clinical research may be defined as "the elucidation of human biology and disease, and its control." It consists of patient-oriented research, epidemiologic and behavioral studies, and outcomes research and health services research.

Community Health Education, MPH The Community Health Education (CHE) major prepares students to be public health leaders who can design, implement, advocate for, and evaluate efforts to promote healthy behaviors and social patterns in a variety of settings. Areas of expertise in the Division include policy, obesity prevention, adolescent health, and substance abuse prevention.
  Epidemiology, MPH
The basic premise of epidemiology is that the patterns of disease in the population yield clues about the underlying disease process, which is crucial to effective public health programs and policies.

  Epidemiology, PhD
PhD concentrations are offered in both behavioral epidemiology and in more traditional biology-focused etiologic epidemiology for students interested in research and teaching careers in the health sciences

  Maternal & Child Health, MPH

(Includes Standard, Epi Emphais, and Online curriculum)
Maternal and child health focuses on promoting and preserving the health of families, including mothers, fathers, children, and adolescents. Because mothers and children have been among the most vulnerable populations, they often are the focus of public health programs.

Public Health Nutrition, MPH This program is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills needed for research and practice in public health and for the effective translation of this knowledge into programs and services that improve and maintain the nutritional health of target populations. The nutritional needs of vulnerable and high-risk populations receive particular attention.

Study Emphasis Programs

The HIV/STI Intervention and Prevention Studies (HIPS) The mission of the HIPS Center is three-fold: 1) Research - through national HIV/STI prevention programs using cutting-edge technologies. 2) Outreach – as the nation’s leading academic public health division in providing direct community health outreach programming for HIV and STI prevention. 3) Training –train HIV prevention workers and other health professionals in advanced HIV prevention.

Infectious Diseases The mission of the ID program is to foster and promote an understanding of the epidemiology of infectious diseases by learning to apply epidemiologic methods to the prevention and control of infectious diseases in the U.S. and globally and through opportunities for exciting and innovative research across a broad  spectrum of infectious disease areas.
