The purpose of the study is to better understand the needs of individuals who have been diagnosed with HIV.

The Study is being conducted by Drs. Keith Horvath, Simon Rosser, Eileen Harwood and a team of investigators at the Center for HIV/STI Intervention and Prevention Studies (HIPS) at the University of Minnesota.

Yes, participants will receive $50 for completing the study.  We offer a choice of check or electronic gift certificate.

Persons aged 18 years or older who have been diagnosed with HIV may be eligible.  We are looking for men, women, and transgender persons to participate in the study.

After a short screening process to see if this project is a good match, participants will be asked to complete a telephone interview that will take up to 90 minutes.  We will provide you with a phone number for the interview or we will call you.

Interviews will be held one-on-one in a single session.  General topics during the interview may include what information and resources you looked for after being diagnosed HIV positive, your use of the Internet before and after you were diagnosed, and your thoughts on what would be the most helpful website for those who have been diagnosed with HIV.

BENEFITS:  There are no long-term health benefits of participating in this study.  However, you may find that this study helps you to think about HIV, the Internet, and needs you may have as someone living with HIV.

RISKS:  During the interview, you may feel uneasy answering questions about your HIV status or sexual behavior.  We may ask these questions for the purposes of the study, but the study is entirely voluntary.

Keeping your information private is our highest priority. Data from this study will be kept in secured filinf cabinets and on a password protected computer. Your identity will not be revealed in any way when the results of the study are reported. Any data that could identify you will be destroyed three years after the study is completed. If you have concerns, just ask!

Yes.  We will not use your contact information from the interviews for any purposes other than this study.  Any contact information you provide will be stored in a separate location from the data collected in the interviews.  We will not contact you after the study without your permission.
