Professional Experience:
In May 1998, reached a landmark settlement with the tobacco industry,
ending the use of tobacco billboards and branded merchandise in Minnesota, and imposed the first-ever injunction against marketing aimed at youth.
Filed the first anti-trust lawsuit against the tobacco industry in the fall of 1994.
Represented 31 states in supporting states' power to order disclosure of chemical additives in cigarettes(1997).
Helped lead a 27-state effort to encourage stores to reduce illegal sales to children(1994). Helped organize a 16 state effort to encourage fast food restaurants to go smoke-free(1993).
Promoted a ban on distribution of free tobacco samples(1986).

Named one of the 25 Most Influential Minnesotans at the ACS Great American Smokeout’s 25th Anniversary, 2001.
