Joint Letter from the Directors
As the Directors for the Leadership Education Program in Maternal & Child Public Health, we are pleased that you are interested in the field of Maternal and Child Health, and specifically what we have to offer at the University of Minnesota. As you will see through your exploration of our website, we have strong historical underpinnings as well as a vibrant present day program and set of activities focused on women, children and families. We are committed both to the training of new leaders for MCH through our current degree programs, as well as outreach to professionals in the community who are serving MCH populations.
In addition to the regular Masters in Public Health (MPH) degree program, which includes both one- and two-year tracks, this year we are launching a new Epidemiology emphasis option within the two-year MPH program. The curriculum for the MCH-Epi program will prepare a new cadre of MCH leaders with the analytic skills and competencies to provide leadership for evidence-based public health practice. For those seeking doctoral level training, we also offer a concentration in MCH through the Epidemiology doctoral program.
Our MCH Program receives significant support from the federal MCH Bureau, which supports graduate students and also enables our faculty and staff to provide continuing education, technical assistance and service to existing MCH professionals in the community. As you peruse this website, you will see many of the products of these efforts, particularly the Healthy Generations newsletter and proceedings from our annual conferences focused on reducing health disparities.
We are proud to be involved with the MCH community working to promote the health and well-being of women, children, youth, and families, including fathers and children with special health needs. We work with a superb group of faculty, students and MCH staff here within the Division of Epidemiology at the University of Minnesota, as well as with outstanding MCH professionals in the community. We welcome your interest and would be happy to receive questions and/or feedback about our MCH program or this website.
Sincerely,
Wendy L. Hellerstedt and Joän M. Patterson
