Dr. Russell Luepker receives ‘Science Advocate of the Year’ Award
The American Heart Association has named Russell Luepker, "Science Advocate of the Year." The award was presented at the association’s annual Congressional Lobby Day in Washington, D.C. on April 29. For 30 years, Dr. Luepker has been an active association volunteer and leading advocate for increased federal funding for heart disease and stroke research and prevention programs. "Dr. Luepker has been invaluable, serving as an advocate at the state legislature and offering his expertise for federal policy issues," said Rachel Callanan, AHA senior advocacy director from Minnesota. "His contributions have been key in helping us move legislation."

10th Annual MCH Summer Institute on Health Disparities
Promoting Health Equity: Family-centered Program Development and Advocacy

When: Thursday, June 12, 2008
Where: Center for Continuing Education and Conference
             Center, St. Paul Campus
The Institute will provide an opportunity to discuss how the universal experience of family - and its diverse definitions - can be integrated into family-centered programs and policies that enhance family resilience and improve individual and population health. We will also affirm that family-centered care is fundamental to health equity: individuals who are at social disadvantage can thrive when programs and policies strengthen and support their core support systems.

The KNOW (91.1) public radio station aired the documentary, "Battles of Belief" on Thursday, 9/20/2007. It featured a segment reviewing the Minnesota Human Starvation Study headed by Ancel Keys.
