Filling the GAPS - Grocery Assistance Program Study

PurposeGAPS

This research study is being conducted by
Dr. Lisa Harnack at the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health with funding from the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). The purpose of the GAPS study is to look at different ways of providing grocery assistance to households living in the Twin Cities.

Participants

We are looking to recruit people who are responsible for the majority their household’s food shopping and who often feel they don’t have enough money for groceries. Participants must not be currently enrolled in SNAP.

Participation

For those eligible to participate:

People who are eligible will be:

  • Provided with money to help in buying groceries for 12 weeks & be asked to:
  • Attend 2 survey visits.
  • Take part in three, 15-30 minute phone interviews after each survey visit.
  • Collect food and grocery receipts for 16 weeks.

All participants will be compensated for the survey visits, phone interviews, and receipt collection for a total of up to $230 in Target gift cards. 

Participation is voluntary.  To participate, people must provide written consent.  Participants are free to withdraw from the study at any time.
