Alcohol, Drug, and Violence Programs

CMCA: Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol –Direct action community organizing program that reduced alcohol use among young adults.

D.A.R.E. PLUS –School, parent, peer, and neighborhood programs for 7th and 8th grade students in urban communities to supplement the existing junior high D.A.R.E. curriculum. D.A.R.E. PLUS promoted parental involvement youth programs, and neighborhood communities to organize with the goal of reducing the use of tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana, and of violent behavior.

Project Northland I –School, family, and community program that reduced the onset and rate of alcohol use among 6th-8th graders.

Project Northland II –School, peer, family, media, and community program that reduced the onset and rate of alcohol use among 6th-8th graders.

Nutrition & Physical Activity Programs

All's Well That Eats Well -Theater production for children to encourage the consumption of fruits and vegetables. The play is for 1st–6th grade students and includes follow-up activities for the classroom and family.

CATCH: Child and Adolescent Trial for Cardiovascular Health –Classroom, parent, cafeteria, and PE program that decreased the consumption of high fat foods and increased physical activity among 3rd through 5th grade students in a national evaluation.

5-A-Day Cafeteria Power Plus –A randomized school-based study that evaluated an environmental intervention to increase sales of lower fat foods in secondary school cafeterias.

5-A-Day Power Plus –School-based program that increased the fruit and vegetable intake of 4th and 5th grade urban students.

GEMS: Girls health Enhancement Multi-Site Program –An obesity-prevention study that included the evaluation of an after-school intervention for 8-10 year old African-American girls and their families that emphasized increased regular physical activity and decreased consumption of soda pop and high fat snacks.

Pathways –School and family program for 3rd through 5th grade American Indian students that increased the consumption of lower fat foods and increased physical activity in order to prevent obesity and diabetes.

TACOS: Trying Alternative Cafeteria Options at School –School cafeteria program that promoted lower-fat a la carte foods and incorporated student-based promotions targeting lower-fat food items.

TEENS: Teens Eating for Energy and Nutrition in School –Classroom, parent, and school-wide program for 7th and 8th grade students that promoted an eating pattern lower in fat and higher in fruits and vegetables.

Tobacco Programs

MSPP: Minnesota Smoking Prevention Program –School-based program with peer emphasis that reduced the onset and rates of smoking among 6th through 12th grade students.

TPOP: Tobacco Policy Options –Direct action community organizing program that reduced access to tobacco products and tobacco use by underage youth.

2 Smart 2 Smoke –Two theater productions for children to encourage non-smoking behavior. One play is for 1st–3rd grade students and the other is for 4th–6th grade students. Both plays also include follow-up activities for the classroom.
