Center for Youth Health Promotion

Mission: From Dr. Mary Story, Director

Dr. StoryThe emphasis of the CYHP is the identification and promotion of effective, ethnically diverse youth health promotion "action" research programs.

These evidence-based programs were evaluated in large-scale community trials. Trials examined the effectiveness of new intervention strategies to promote healthful behavior among young people, and included eating, physical activity, and tobacco, alcohol, and drug use.

The mission of the newly created Center for Youth Health Promotion is to diminish barriers that prevent the successful dissemination, implementation, and maintenance of such research-based youth health promotion programs to schools and communities. All of these programs and materials were developed by or in collaboration with faculty and staff in the Division of Epidemiology of the School of Public Health.

Goals:

  • to facilitate the dissemination of the research-based youth health promotion programs, curricula, and materials to schools and communities throughout the United States.
  • to encourage successful implementation procedures of youth health promotion programs and curricula through training programs and consultation.
  • to offer assistance with the maintenance and revision of youth health promotion programs, curricula, and materials already in schools and communities.
