EXAMPLES OF OUTDOOR ALCOHOL ADVERTISING IN INNER CITIES
Compiled by Pat McKee and Rhonda Jones-Webb
The photographs posted here were taken as part of the Malt Liquor and Homicide Study, a 3-year project funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The study was designed to examine how the alcohol environment influences racial/ethnic differences in homicide rates in inner city neighborhoods in ten U.S. cities.
We have posted these ads of malt liquor and other types of alcohol to encourage discussion, comments, and criticism about outdoor alcohol advertising found in inner cities throughout the U.S.
These examples may be used for presentations in community forums, classrooms, etc., to increase awareness of the marketing practices used by the alcohol industry. All photos were taken in the Summer of 2003.
