Risks of Youth Drinking:

What are some of the consequences of youth drinking?

Based on national data from 1990 to 1998:

  • Rates of motor vehicle deaths and homicides, which are often associated with alcohol use, were higher among youth under the legal drinking age than among adults of legal drinking age.
  • African American, Hispanic and American Indian male youth under the legal drinking age were at substantial risk of being victims of homicide.
All males under the legal drinking age were of substantial risk of dying in motor vehicle crashes.
