Policies on College Campuses

What types of alcohol policies exist on college campuses?

A phone survey of administrators at 73 four-year colleges in Minnesota and Wisconsin revealed:

  • 78% prohibit beer kegs.
  • 82% provide alcohol-free housing for students.
  • 59% ban alcohol advertisements in school newspapers.
  • 32% prohibit all alcohol use on campus.
  • Public schools were 4 times more likely than private schools to accept alcohol industry-sponsored gifts.
  • Smaller schools were more likely than larger schools to
    prohibit alcohol advertising on school radio stations.
